How Al-Mu’ammal Cultural Foundation collects, uses and protects your information on this website and in the Mu’ammal app.

1.Who we are

Al-Mu’ammal Cultural Foundation, Lucknow (“we”, “us”) runs the website al-muammal.org and the Mu’ammal mobile app. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. If you have any question about it, write to us at muammalfoundation@gmail.com.

2.Information you give us

  • Account: your name, email address, optional phone number and password. Passwords are stored only in encrypted (hashed) form.
  • Orders and magazine subscriptions: your name, phone, email and delivery address, what you ordered, and the payment status.
  • Forms: when you use the contact, Eisal-e-Sawab or other forms we receive your name, phone number and message.
  • The app: questions you send to the Q&A section, your bookmarks and your game scores.

3.Payments

Online payments are processed by Cashfree Payments. Your card, UPI or net-banking details are entered on Cashfree’s secure checkout and are never seen or stored by us; we only receive the transaction reference and whether the payment succeeded. Cash on delivery and bank transfers are recorded against your order.

4.Information collected automatically

  • Basic technical data such as your IP address, browser and device type, kept in server logs and with form submissions to protect the site against abuse.
  • In the app: a device token for push notifications, the platform and app version, your chosen language, region and notification preferences, and simple usage events (for example which sections are opened) so we can improve the app. These are linked to your account when you are signed in.
  • We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not use third-party analytics on the website.

5.Location

Prayer times and the Qibla direction are calculated on your device. If you choose “My location”, your coordinates are sent once to find the nearest city name and are not stored. You can instead pick a city or enter coordinates yourself, and you can withdraw location permission at any time in your phone’s settings.

6.Cookies

We use only the cookies the site needs to work: - a sign-in cookie, if you sign in to your account; - a language cookie, which remembers the language you chose; - a visitor-counter cookie, which only notes that this browser has already been counted for the visitor number in the footer (it holds no personal information).

Your cart is kept in your own browser. Videos are embedded from YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com); YouTube may set its own cookies when you play a video.

7.How we use your information

  • to process and deliver your orders and magazine subscriptions, and to send order updates;
  • to run your account, including email verification and password-reset codes;
  • to answer your messages and questions;
  • to send the notifications and prayer alerts you have chosen (you can turn them off at any time in the app);
  • to keep our services secure and prevent misuse;
  • to meet our legal, accounting and tax obligations.

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

8.Who we share it with

Only with the service providers we need, and only for the purposes above: - Cashfree Payments, for online payments; - our hosting and email provider (Hostinger), which stores the website, database and outgoing email; - Expo, Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and Apple, to deliver push notifications to your phone; - India Post or a courier, who receive your name, address and phone number to deliver books and magazines.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

9.How long we keep it

We keep your account information while your account is open. Order and payment records are kept for as long as Indian law requires for accounting and tax purposes. Messages from forms are kept until they have been dealt with and then archived. When you delete your account we remove or anonymise your personal information, except records we must keep by law.

10.Your rights

Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you may ask to see, correct or erase the personal information we hold about you, withdraw consent you have given, and raise a grievance with us. You can edit your profile in your account, ask for your account to be deleted in the app (Account → Delete account), or write to us at muammalfoundation@gmail.com. We will reply within 30 days.

11.Security

The website and app use encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords and verification codes are stored only in hashed form, and access to personal information is limited to authorised staff whose actions are recorded.

12.Children

Much of our work is for children and young people. Children under 18 should use an account with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal information without that consent, please contact us and we will delete it.
